Home For Christmas

So I’m finally home for Christmas. After an intense 24 hours of traveling straight, I’ve come back to my family and friends. I couldn’t be happier. Strange enough, I find it quite odd to be home. My house looks different, though as always it is decked out for the holidays. Trees of different themes brighten every room, garland, candles, nutcrackers, and toy Santas line the walls and tables. Christmas lights, ribbons, cookies, and pies warm up the house.

I realize that it hadn’t really hit me that I’d be going home. Originally, we were planning on being in Europe for the holidays. We were going to vacation in Spain and France. Then my sister had a horrible soccer injury and ended up having to get an intense surgery. She is in a painful recovery and can hardly walk. As unfortunate as it is for her, and as hard as it is to see her suffering, I’m grateful that this gave me the opportunity to be home.

This is the longest I’ve been away from home, having left exactly six months prior. I’m filled with so much joy through the simplest things; driving with my best friend, cuddling my dog, laying in bed with my sister. I’ve only been here two days and already I’m bummed that my time here will be so short. But that makes me cherish it even more. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and I’ll be able to see the rest of my family.

It really warms my heart to be around the people I love. They want to hear about me; my adventures, school, and vacations. But I’ve always been bored talking so much about myself. I’m mostly excited to hear about how they’ve been doing and what they’re up to. Christmas is my favorite time of year and I’m so grateful to be home for the holidays. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!!
