Why Am I Valuable To An Employer

Since I was young, I’ve had a fascination with other cultures. I’ve been fortunate enough to have started traveling at the young age of six. I even traveled without my parents when I was ten and eleven, first at a French language summer camp just outside of Geneva, Switzerland, and then at a British soccer academy in Manchester, England. These experiences opened my mind to new languages, cultures, and ways of life.

I started attending language schools at the age of ten and have since attended six more throughout Europe and the Middle East. Many people underestimate the level of commitment it requires to learn a language. One must attend classes in a country where that language is widely spoken for three to six hours a day, five days a week. Most times you never speak a word of English. However Arabic is the exception because it is not similar to other Latin languages and requires more explanation.

It’s a huge challenge that requires discipline, dedication and time to perfect the skill. I believe that my attendance in these schools has shaped me into a student and an employee that will be valuable for many companies.

I have proved myself to be a hard worker, capable of working long and intense hours non-stop. I’ve learned to communicate with all different types of people on both a person, professional and emotional level.

I am a motivated adventurer who loves to throw myself into unknown and challenging situations. For example, just last month, I arrived with all my possessions at a crowded airport in Cairo, Egypt. I didn’t speak the language or understand the culture, and only knew two people, one of whom I had never met.

But after just one month, and more than 125 hours of study, I can read and write in Arabic, get around the city with confidence and have made many friends of all ages and nationalities. I am beginning to understand this foreign and sometimes dangerous environment. This shows my future employers that I am willing to throw myself into a situation and will work long and hard to achieve elaborate and inspiring results that we both will be proud of. If there’s anything I’d like to communicate, it’s that I welcome a challenge and am eager to make an impact on the world around me.
