Praxis Portfolio Project: Language School Marketing Tactics

For my second module in Praxis, I have a really exciting portfolio project. I’ve planned it out and am eager to move forward. Basically what I’ll be doing is analyzing the advertising and email methods of six different companies. Those companies will be online or onsite language schools. I will use Mimic Method, Apple Languages, IH Language House, Amira Language, Fluent U, and ExSpanish. I’ve signed up for the email subscriptions and have gotten a few initial emails. Over the course of the month, I will be comparing and contrasting their marketing and advertising methods. Where does most of their online traffic come from? Do they push their mailing lists or products with pop-up boxes on the website or by offering a free trial? What are they trying to sell?

A few times a week, I will receive emails from each of these companies. I’ll break down their rhetoric and record their marketing methods. Which company’s tactics seem to be the most successful? Do the online schools get more participants than the physical schools? Are their advertisements successful and professional, or do they seem more like a nuisance?

Once or twice a week, as my research progresses, I’ll write a blog post on my findings. Then at the end of the month, I’ll post the full report.
